HIV Prevention Youth Summit Is Set For June 13

"Spread the Word, Not the Disease! Get Talking! Get Tested! Get Treated!"

BALTIMORE, MD (June 6, 2012) -The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Infectious Disease and Environmental Health Administration (IDEHA) joins The After-School Institute, Baltimore City Health Department, Baltimore City Public School System, and Maryland State Department of Education in sponsoring the 2012 HIV PreventionYouth Summit.

"People should talk openly about HIV with their families, friends and partners," said Frances Phillips, DHMH Deputy Secretary for Public Health Services. "If you or someone you know is living with HIV, get treatment. It can save your life and theirs."

"Preventing the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is everyone's responsibility," said Heather Hauck, Director of DHMH's Infectious Disease and Environmental Health Administration. "All sexually active Marylanders should take appropriate steps to protect themselves and their partners - Get Talking, Get Tested, and Get Treated."

The Summit will be held on June 13th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Radisson Cross Keys in Baltimore, Maryland. This program is targeted to youth, peer educators, caregivers, and youth program staff. Features include a youth panel, free HIV counseling and testing services, exhibits, and educational workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to network and to learn about best practices in HIV and STI prevention and other issues that impact our youth.

Registration is free. To register, call 410.580.0750, email, or visit for registration details.
