No, psychology associates are approved to work under the supervision of licensed psychologists. A psychology associate must receive approval from the Board before commencing practice.
A master’s degree in psychology is required to apply for psychology associate status in Maryland. If the applicant's degree is not in psychology, the Board may approve a master’s degree if it is judged by the Board to be substantially equivalent in subject matter and extent training to a master’s or doctoral degree in psychology.COMAR 10.36.07.
Complete and submit a Practice Oriented Program application packet or a Non-Practice Oriented Program application packet to the Board; Pay the $200.00 nonrefundable application fee. Submit required supporting documentation; Have official transcripts sent by the school/s to the Board; Submit to a Criminal History Records Check and pay the required fee to the Crimininal Justice Information System office. Complete licensure information can be found in Health Occupations Article, Title 18, Annotated Code of Maryland and in COMAR 10.36.01.
