SALARY: $43,725 - $69,999 (Grade 17)


DESCRIPTION: The Psychology Associate, Doctorate is the non-licensed doctoral level of work rendering psychological services to residents, patients or clients. Employees perform psychological evaluations, psychotherapy and psychological interviews. Specific duties of employees in this class are determined by the program objectives of the hiring agency or institution in dealing with problems related to mental health, emotional disturbances, developmental disabilities and other psychological conditions. The work is performed in State mental hospitals, community clinics, health centers, residential centers and emergency services programs. Employees in this class do not supervise. Employees receive intermediate supervision from a psychologist licensed by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.


EDUCATION: Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology as defined by the Annotated Code of Maryland, Health Occupations, 18-101(g).

EXPERIENCE: One year of supervised experience rendering direct psychological services, providing psychological assessments, and evaluating the delivery of psychological services.

LICENSE: In accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Health Occupations, 18-301(b4), the Psychology Associate, Doctorate is required at the time of hire to apply jointly with the supervising Psychologist to the State board of Examiners of Psychologists for an exemption from licensure. The exemption must be received within six months of submitting the application.

NOTE: A twelve month full-time or twenty-four month half-time internship in rendering psychological services may be substituted for the required year of experience, provided that the internship is a requirement for the doctoral degree in psychology.

1.  Candidates may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform job related functions.

2.  The employee must become licensed as a psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists within three years of appointment to a position in the Psychology Associate, Doctorate classification.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS: The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
