DESCRIPTION: Psychologist Intern is the pre-doctoral, non-licensed level of psychology work. Employees serve an internship and receive education and training in rendering psychological services to residents, patients or clients in State institutions or programs. Employees train in performing psychological evaluations. Specific duties of employees in this class are determined by the program objectives of the hiring agency or institution in dealing with problems related to mental health, emotional disturbances, developmental disabilities and other conditions. The work is performed in State mental hospitals, community clinics, health centers, residential centers and emergency services programs. Employees in this class do not supervise.
EDUCATION: Enrollment in a doctoral level psychology program as defined by the Annotated Code of Maryland, Health Occupations, 18-101 (g) and eligible for internship as determined by the university or professional school.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:
In accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Health Occupations, 18-301 (b3), the Psychologist Intern does not require exemption from licensure by the State Board of Examiners for Psychologists.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE CLASSIFICATION:
1. Candidates may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform job-related functions.
2. The psychologist intern program requires of each intern the equivalent of one year full-time training to be completed in no less than 12 months and no more than 24 months.
