TITLE: Sanitarian II, Registered (0226) CD

SALARY: $36,280 - $57,567 (Grade 14)  


DESCRIPTION: A Sanitarian II, Registered is the full performance level of field work for the promotion of environmental health, for the protection of the environment and for the enforcement of State and local environmental health laws and regulations for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Maryland Department of the Environment. Employees perform, on a routine basis, inspections and investigations to aid in securing compliance with the health laws and regulations specifically pertaining to control of the public health aspects of the environment. Employees in this classification do not supervise. Employees receive general supervision from a higher-level Sanitarian, administrative official or public health officer.


Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Environmental Sanitarians under the certificate of eligibility requirements for Environmental Sanitarians.

Experience: Two years of environmental health work experience in the promotion, control and maintenance of environmental health.

Note: Applicants may substitute a masterís degree in public health or environmental health sciences for one year of the required general experience.


1.  Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Environmental Sanitarian from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Sanitarians. A photocopy of current registration must be attached to the application form (MS-100).

2.  Licensure requirements are pursuant to State Environmental Article, Title 11, COMAR 26.07.01 through 26.07.04. 3. Applicants may be given a medical examination and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the work required of the position prior to appointment.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS:  The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
