Affordable Health Care and Services

Governor's Message

 Governor Martin O'Malley

For over half a million Marylanders, affordable healthcare is out of reach. Many Marylanders face escalating healthcare costs and are unsure where to turn to obtain information on affordable health coverage.

In November of 2007, the Working Families and Small Business Act was passed to help Maryland*s working families get the health coverage they need. This monumental legislation expands medical assistance to cover more parents and families; now a family of three with an annual income of $20,500 is able to get health care under Medical Assistance for Families. At the same time, the Act helps Maryland's small businesses by creating the Health Insurance Partnership to provide affordable health insurance through a partnership with the state, employers and employees. Together, this Act will provide health coverage to over 100,000 Marylanders when fully implemented.

Getting the word out that there are new initiatives to help families get health care is critical to our efforts to expand health coverage.

The Get Healthcare website provides information to families on these new efforts as well as existing statewide healthcare initiatives that can help uninsured Marylanders get health care.

Martin O'Malley,

Governor
