Is there any way to expedite the process of issuing a license?

Yes.  Immediately request required information from third parties, such as NBCOT, and other states or countries in which you've been licensed.  Track and follow-up third party requests.

Are fax documents or photocopies acceptable?

No.  Original documents must be received by the Board Office in order for your application to be considered completed.

Is it acceptable to copy the application and/or other blank forms?

Blank forms may be duplicated.  The information provided by the person completing the form must be original.

Why do I have to provide 2 mailing labels?

The labels will be used to mail your official license and other documents to you.   Therefore, you should use a reliable address.

How long is an OT/OTA license valid?

All licenses are valid until June 30.   You must complete continuing education and renew your license to maintain an active status.

How will I know when my application is complete?

Call the Board Office to check the status of your application.

If I'm awaiting licensure, when may I begin practicing occupational therapy?

Only after you've received an official license number from the Board.  As the Board meets on the 3rd Friday of each month, it's realistic to expect to begin new employment during the 1st week of the next month in which your application for licensure is complete.

Are there restrictions with a temporary license?

Yes.  A temporary licensee is required to receive specific supervision from an O.T. licensee.  See the Maryland regulations manual for specific guidelines.

Are there special requirements for internationally-trained applicants?

No.  The licensure process and requirements are the same for all applicants.

What if a state or country in which I've previously held a temporary license doesn't verify temporary licenses?

Please ask the licensure board of that state or country to complete the MD verification of licensure form.
