Board of Occupational Therapy Practice

Introduction

Welcome to the website of the Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice.  The Board was formed in 1979 to regulate the practice of occupational therapy in the State of Maryland.  Our main goal is to protect the Maryland public through the licensure and regulation of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants.  The Board reviews the credentials of all applicants and strives to ensure that only qualified individuals are permitted to practice occupational therapy in Maryland. The Board is a place where the public can call with inquiries about licensed individuals. Also,  consumers can file a complaint against practitioners they feel may be in possible violation of the law.

Board meetings are held the third Friday of every month on the 4th floor of the Bland Bryant Building on the grounds of the Spring Grove Hospital Center.  The meetings are open to the public.  Meeting minutes and agenda can be viewed by clicking on the link to Board Information below.

Licenses and course selections can be verified online by selecting the appropriate link under "Online Services".  All active and inactive licenses expire on June 30, 2013.

Renewals:  The next renewal period will begin approximately on April  2, 2013.  Instructions were  mailed at the end of March, 2013.   In order to be eligible for licensure renewal in 2013, you must have earned 12 contact hours between January 1 and December 31, 2012. The 12 contact hours shall consist of a minimum of 8 contact hours related to occupational therapy principles and procedures and a maximum of 4 contact hours through occupational therapy role-related activities, as defined in COMAR 10.46.04.02.  Please consult 2011_10.46.04_Reference_Guide.pdf for a complete listing of the continuing competency programs and activities.  The complete regulations can be found in COMAR 10.46.04. Those individuals who were originally licensed after July 1, 2012 do not need any hours for the 2013 renewal.  Please contact us at 410-402-8560 for more information.
